Why Small Farms?

At The Perennial Foods Group, we celebrate small farms and commit to supporting their growth and transition. This includes both networks of smallholder farms, as well as small commercial growers.

Most of our growers are family-owned farms, and thus share our values and multi-generational mindset to land management. They can more easily adapt to change, more efficiently make decisions, and more diligently observe their land - making them uniquely well-positioned to adopt a regenerative way of growing and to lead the movement for better farming.

Small Farm Services

We recognize that a smaller scale often means less efficient access to the technical expertise, inputs, financing, and markets to support a regenerative transition. With this in mind, we provide our growers a comprehensive portfolio of support to help them move beyond the organic standard.

We are actively growing our support service provision in order to offer small farms the following services:

  • Certification Support (including: EU Organic, Soil Association Organic, GlobalGAP, GRASP, BRC, and SMETA)

  • Agronomic Advisory (including: farm design, crop selection, production planning, regenerative training, pest and disease diagnostics, nutrition programming, and agronomic troubleshooting)

  • Supply Chain Support (including: cold chain advisory, logistics planning, traceability systems, and software recommendations)

  • Business Advisory (including: margin forecasting, price setting support, and cost reduction advisory)

  • Input Provision (including: organic fertilizer, seed, and packaging provision)

  • Financing (including: financing recommendations and very selective access to working capital, trade credit, and grant application support)
